WebMD and Twitter forge content partnership

WebMD and Twitter announced today the start of a health content partnership; this marks the first content collaboration endeavour between Twitter and a health platform.

The new partnership aims to feature more WebMD content within the Twitter feed along with video content and relevant graphics to educate users on health topics whilst highlighting patient stories on what it’s like to live with and manage chronic conditions and other health concerns.

The partnership will feature launches timed with seasonal or monthly health awareness events. Upcoming programming includes Migraine Awareness Week in September, Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Eczema Awareness Week in October, and Lung Cancer Awareness Month in November. These programs will feature WebMD produced full-length patient videos, infographics depicting the health concerns associated with these diseases, and useful myth-busters. The video programming delivered through the partnership will become part of Twitter Amplify, Twitter’s library of premium live and on-demand video content.

At a time when a significant percentage of the world receives news via social media rather than conventional news sources or personal research, this partnership presents an opportunity to usher in conversations about health within households and encourages people to be more vigilant and involved when it comes to knowing their own health risks and when to consult a physician.

“Conversations about health are exploding on Twitter,” said Lisa Bookwalter, Twitter’s Director of Health Client Solutions. “We’re bringing together the dynamic environment of a social feed with best-in-class condition-specific content.”
