Aetna, the health insurer, has collaborated with Apple to develop a new health app for its customers. Through the use of an Apple Watch, the Attain app will provide Aetna customers with personalised goals, track their daily activity levels, recommend healthy actions, and ultimately reward them for taking these actions to improve their well-being.

The app provides participants with personalised daily and weekly activity goals, based on their age, sex and weight, and can include, for example, swimming or yoga. The app will also send notifications to users to get vaccinations, collect medication etc. The app, which is expected to be in the Apple App Store in Spring 2019, requires an iPhone 5S or later, and an Apple Watch Series 1 or later.

The scheme is similar to one offered by Prudential in the UK, which rewards customers of its VitalityHealth plan for maintaining health habits. VitalityHealth members can get an Apple Watch Series 4 from £99, and pay nothing more if they stay active and track activity to earn Vitality points.
